Winter Readiness Blog: All The Updates Leading To Opening Day

January 8th Update: It Snowed!!

We picked up 5 inches overnight and our crew is fired up to be out pushing snow again! To make it even better we’re taking advantage of the cooler temps by making even more this morning to continue building the base we need to welcome you back.

This snowfall is a huge step closer to opening day, and with OpenSnow calling for more today, we’re hopeful this system helps us keep that momentum going.

We’ll keep updating this page as conditions evolve and as soon as we’re ready to welcome you back. Until then, we’re doing everything we can to turn this snowfall into turns.

January 5th Update: Snow And Cold Temps Are In The Forecast

We like what we’re seeing! OpenSnow is forecasting up to 10 inches of snow over the next five days, with cooler temperatures moving into the picture too. That combo has our team fired up, because it creates a big opportunity to continue building our base and pushing toward opening day.

Nothing is guaranteed until it’s on the ground, but if this system delivers, our crew will be ready to take full advantage. Snowmaking will be running whenever colder temperatures allow, and behind the scenes everything is dialed. All our lifts are prepped, our team is ready, and we’re set to open as soon as conditions line up. We’re just as eager to get back on the mountain as you are.

Keep checking back here and on our conditions page for the latest updates as the forecast plays out. Snow dances are highly encouraged!

Dec 31st Update: Taking Advantage of Every Cold Window

Our team has been taking advantage of every cold-weather window by running snowmaking whenever temperatures allow and continuing to push toward opening day. This summer, we invested $300,000 into enhancements to our snowmaking system. Those upgrades are already being put to work, helping us operate more efficiently and make the most of shorter cold snaps when they happen.

Snowmaking is dependent on cooler temperatures, and while those windows have been limited, we’ve seen a few opportunities and have moved quickly to take advantage of them. We’re continuing to watch the OpenSnow forecast closely and looking for longer, more consistent stretches of cold to keep things moving.

Right now, opening the resort comes down to getting a stretch of consistent cold. We need roughly four solid 12-hour snowmaking windows to build enough base. We’re not there yet, but every cold night counts, and our team is showing up for each one.

We want to be back on the slopes just as much as you do. While our opening day has not yet been announced, guests who have purchased lift tickets, rentals, or lessons through January 9th will receive a credit via email soon.

Keep checking back here for more updates as conditions evolve and we hope to see you soon!

December 18th: We’re Eying The Forecast And Waiting For The Cold Snap To Welcome You Back!

We wanted to share a quick conditions update after a stretch of very mild temperatures this past week. Without consistent cold, it’s been difficult to build and hold the kind of base we need to welcome you back, and those warmer temps restrict us from making snow.

We want to get out on the slopes just as badly as you and the good news is that we’re ready when conditions shift. Our snowmaking system received key enhancements over the off season, and our team is monitoring temperatures around the clock. The moment we get a stretch of cold, stable weather, we’ll move quickly to take advantage of it.

In the meantime, the ticket office, tune shop, and retail shop are open daily from 10am to 2pm for season pass pickups, donation drop-offs, and getting ready for winter. Check out all our services the tune shop offers here and with Christmas right around the corner, it’s also a great time to grab a last-minute gift at the retail shop.

Our Coat and Food Donation Drive is running through December 24th. Bring a winter coat or non-perishable food item and receive a voucher for 50 percent off a group lesson.

If you’re still on the fence, this Friday is the last day to lock in a season pass at a discounted price. We’ll continue sharing updates as conditions evolve. Keep up the snow rituals and follow along here as we push toward getting you back on the mountain.

December 9th: Where We Stand On Opening Day At Nordic Valley

We wanted to take a moment to share where things stand with opening day, because we know you’re anxiously waiting for that first lap of the season. We feel it too. If we could flip the switch on winter today, we would. So here’s a clear look at what we’re seeing on the mountain and what it will take to get the season started.

Last week brought us 10 inches of snow, but recent days haven’t delivered the colder temperatures needed to build and hold a solid base. Without consistent cold, it’s tough for natural snow to stick and it limits when we can run our snowmaking system. Nobody wants to see those chairs spinning more than our crew does but until we receive colder temps and a little help from Mother Nature, we’re sad to share that our scheduled opening day will be moving back

The good news is that our snowmaking system received key enhancements over the offseason, and our team is watching temperatures nonstop. The moment things drop into range, we’ll fire up snowmaking and move as quickly as possible. To open, we typically need a few solid days of cold, stable temps paired with a little help from Mother Nature to lay down the base we need. Once winter settles in, things can turn around quickly.

The moment we have the coverage to support a strong start to the season, a new opening day will be announced. Until then, do your snow rituals, think cold thoughts, and keep checking back here for all the updates as we push toward welcoming you back.
